At The Brothers Arms
The Brothers Arms is a friendly, community focused Free House. We believe that pubs are about people, so whether it is lively debate you're after or a quiet pint with book in hand, you can find it here.
We are passionate about serving an extensive range of high-quality beers at reasonable prices. The main bar normally serves eight cask ales with two regular beers and six changing cask ales. The bar also serves ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks. Crisps and nuts are always available and on Thursdays we have a selection of locally made flavoured Bhajis.
The pub itself has three distinct indoor seating areas; a Tap Room with a log burner for those cold winter nights, a games room with board games and dartboard and we also have a cosy snug with its own log burner.
For the warmer months we have a covered seating area to the front of the pub next to a small car park, however our beer is so good we always recommend using public transport.
To the rear we have a large beer garden with views overlooking the City with plenty of large umbrellas to keep you comfortable through both sunny and showery days. The beer garden has an upper terrace. This area is normally used as additional seating but it can be reserved. The terrace has its own outside bar and can be set up with a marquee for parties and events, more information on this can be found in the Events section.

More about the Brothers Arms
We hold a Quiz Night, complete with snacks, on Tuesdays at 8.30pm. Teams of all abilities welcome, a good mix of questions and quizzing styles. £1 per team to enter.
Live music is in our DNA and the pub's name reflects its association with locally well known ukulele band 'The Everly Pregnant Brothers'. Links to more information about the Band can be found here.
Events
The Brothers Arms hosts regular Live Music and Arts events. Monday nights is a regulare Opn Mic fixture in collaboration with our friends at Jarred Up, their FB page is HERE. The best way to keep up to date with our schedule is to check out our Facebook and Instagram pages. Links to our social media pages can also be found above.
If you like to enquire about reserving or hiring the Upper Terrace and outside bar then please fill in the form below and one of the Events team will get back to you. Prices will depend on the number of guests and your requirements so please make sure you tell us numbers, dates and if you need the outside Bar and/or the Marquee.
History
The Brothers Arms is a truly historic pub, we will continue to research and preserve its history where we can. Recently we have hung a framed picture that lists all of the previous Landlords for the last 200 years, along with the name of the reigning monarch during their tenure. The Pub went by many names including the Shakespeare Inn, Shakespear and Shakespeare Tavern until 1953 when it was renamed Ye Olde Shakespeare. In 2014 we renamed it to the Brothers Arms with the intention of giving the pub a new lease of life. As a nod to the past we have a number of old photos of the pub that are different from the one we’ve posted on this website, why not come and have a look.
The Brothers Arms in Film.
At the start of the 1996 Film “When Saturday Comes” the young Jimmy and Russell Muir head out of school and sneak into the local pub for a pint.
The pub in the film is called The Fox House but the filming location was actually The Shakespeare Inn, now our very own The Brothers Arms. Sadly the interior shots in the film were shot elsewhere, we believe in the Fox House, Darnall. We’d like to thank Sheffield History for the photo. More information can be found HERE and the IMDB reference to the film can be found HERE.
